Design and Technology
Year 4 had a fantastic time in Design and Technology creating their own working torches! They explored how to build an electrical circuit using a battery, bulb, wires and a switch, experimenting with different arrangements to discover what made the circuit work. Through testing, problem-solving and perseverance, the children developed their understanding of electrical circuits before successfully creating their own functioning torches.
Home Challenges

Reading
At Caldershaw we know how important reading is: not only to enable us to find out about the world and research specific topics, but (most importantly) in giving life long pleasure. Please read a book every night and record it in your reading record (remember: all books count). A few pages will do, but make sure you understand what you've read!

Geography
Year 4 enjoyed an exciting geography fieldwork trip to explore their local rivers. They observed the river environment firsthand, learning how to identify and describe key river features such as the source, channel, banks, meanders and mouth. The children developed their fieldwork skills by making careful observations, recording their findings and discussing how rivers shape the landscape.
R.E.
Year 4 enjoyed a fascinating visit to a Hindu temple in Oldham as part of their Religious Education learning. During their visit, they experienced a traditional act of worship, watching and listening as prayers and devotional songs were performed. The children learnt about Hindu beliefs, rituals and the significance of the shrine, as well as the importance of respect, community and worship in everyday Hindu life. They had the opportunity to explore the temple, ask thoughtful questions and deepen their understanding of a different faith.
Knowledge Organisers
This is an example of one of our knowledge organisers. Knowledge organisers are a summary of key facts, vocabulary and essential information that the children need for each unit of work. Please feel free to print them out and encourage your child to consolidate their learning. All the units are listed below.

Science
Year 4 became wildlife investigators as they explored a range of habitats in search of different minibeasts. They learnt why certain animals live in particular environments, discovering how habitats provide the food, water, shelter and conditions needed for survival. The children carried out a scientific investigation by observing, identifying and counting the different bugs they found in a variety of habitats. They recorded and compared their results, using their findings to draw conclusions about which habitats supported the greatest variety of minibeasts.
