RE Curriculum

R.E. Curriculum

 Curriculum Statements for R.E.

Intent

Our Religious Education curriculum:

  • Is designed with an awareness of the religious demographic in our local area as well as those which our children will encounter nationally and through the media.
  • Teaches the children about religious practices, as well as allowing them to express their own ideas and beliefs, and gain the skills to ask questions about and investigate key concepts.
  • Uses the Rochdale Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education (2019-2024).

 Implementation

  • The children study in depth the religious belief and practices of Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Judaism.
  • Our curriculum is based around three strands – Believing (Religious beliefs, teachings and sources), Expressing (Religious and spiritual forms of expression), and Living (Religious practices and ways of living).
  • Teachers engage and reinforce children’s prior knowledge at the start of each topic and lesson.
  • High quality resources are used and where possible the children are taken on visits to places of worship.
  • Throughout both key stages, the children are asked ‘Big Questions’ and ‘Challenge’ questions to encourage them to respond to their learning with their own thoughts and beliefs, as well as being a useful tool for assessment.

Impact

Our children develop:

  • an in depth knowledge and understanding of some of the world’s major faiths
  • confidence to ask and explore questions about life, and what different people believe, to make sense of religion, and to reflect on their own ideas and ways of living
  • the ability to apply these skills to the next phase of their learning in a range of subjects, not just RE.
